Yreka, CA – The Siskiyou County Superior Court has announced the recruitment for the 2025-2026 Civil Grand Jury, inviting community members to apply for this unique opportunity to serve as a “watchdog” for local government operations.

The Civil Grand Jury plays a crucial role in ensuring accountability, transparency and integrity within Siskiyou County’s government. Grand jurors investigate local issues and complaints, examine various aspects of county and city government, and produce comprehensive reports with findings and recommendations to enhance government operations.
Grand jurors come from varied walks of life with different perspectives and experiences. Those who serve all share a dedication to democratic ideals and are willing to spend time on civil oversight. Jurors must leave their personal agendas and political leanings at the door, working together to investigate and report on local government agencies. The goal is to improve government effectiveness and hold elected and appointed officials accountable to the public they represent.
To qualify for service, applicants must be United States citizens, 18 years of age or older and residents of Siskiyou County for at least one year. They must possess ordinary intelligence, sound judgment and good character, along with sufficient knowledge of the English language. Applicants must not be currently serving as trial jurors or elected public officers, nor have been discharged as a grand juror within the past year or convicted of malfeasance in office or any felony.
The term for the Civil Grand Jury runs from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026. The jury determines its meeting schedule but typically meets monthly. On average a juror may devote about 20 hours per month to the process.
