Obituary: Celia Ann Taylor

Celia Ann Taylor
August 18, 1926 – March 9, 2025

Celia Ann (Wetzel) Taylor, April 18, 1926 – March 9, 2025, passed away peacefully in her San Francisco home of 65 years. Born and raised in McCloud, CA, a company-owned lumber town; graduated 1944 from McCloud High School, proud alumnus of Mills College Class of 1948 (BA in History). A ‘Golden Girl’, she regularly attended Mills reunions.

Celia was married to her Sweet William for 50 years, until his death in 2006. A homemaker when her children were young, she was active in PTAs, co-founded a Brownie Troop, and was a leader in church affairs (Episcopal Church Women, Vestry) up to her death. She served as Parish Secretary for a decade, retiring to provide eldercare to her parents. A skilled baker, seamstress, gardener, and amateur genealogist, she was a member of La Puerta de Oro SF chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the California Genealogical Society, and Los Californianos. The discovery of her namesake Spanish grandmother Hercelia Arreagada’s Californio ancestors, who arrived in San Francisco with the 1776 Anza Expedition, led to her joining Los Californianos. A gracious hostess who enjoyed gathering family and friends around her elegant dining table.

A loving mother to Terri, SarahJane, Sandy D, and Tim (Ana), devoted grandmother to Brian (Barbara), Sandy M, Beatriz Hercelia, William A, Anabelle, Summer, and fond aunt to nieces and nephews; she will be missed by family and friends. We are forever grateful for Cora’s caregiving.

Life Celebration will be held March 22, 1 p.m., Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, 1750 29th Avenue, San Francisco, reception to follow. Plant a flower in her memory.
