Dear Congressman LaMalfa,
Thank you for your efforts to save our local schools—they mean so much to Siskiyou County. But I’m writing with a deeper worry about our future. I’ve been researching how much of our economy depends on federal funding, and the numbers I found are stark.
I couldn’t nail down an exact percentage—Congressman, if you have this data, please share it—but I did study the Siskiyou 2050 economic report. Tables 4.2 and 4.9 show that over half of our jobs rely on federal funds, and that’s probably an understatement. With nearly 30% of our people being seniors, we’re vulnerable. If those “efficiency cuts” keep coming, we could lose up to 80% of the resources that keep this county running—schools, roads, emergency services, all of it.
I’m asking you to fight for us, not just here but for every rural county in America. Our farmers and ranchers feed this nation; we can’t be left behind. Please look at those tables in the report—it’s online at siskiyou2050.com/images/docs/SkyGP_BR_04_Economic_PRD.pdf—and do everything you can to protect Siskiyou’s way of life.
Thank you for standing with us.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Wood
Siskiyou County

Thank you Bonnie for speaking out on issues affecting SisQ…
We have to hope that Congressman LaMalfa will put our community first and vote against legislation that hurts farmers, ranchers, veterans, elderly and children. Of course we all want to do away with fraud and corruption however in the urgency to produce savings, I think vital programs will be cut and our unemployment rate will skyrocket.
