Obituary: Anita Joyce Hogan

Anita Joyce Hogan of Montague, California, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, at the age of 90 in Weed, California. She was born in Beach, North Dakota on September 9, 1934, to Dewey and Helen Hughes. As she grew up she lived in Montana for a short period of time and then the family moved to Washington State. She lived in Richland, Washington when she met Bobby Collier. They were married in 1952 and they were married for 25 years. Bobby died in a car accident in 1976. While they were married they moved back and forth between Washington and Southern California for his work as an ironworker. They had three children while they were married: Shelley Rose, Michael Collier and Tracy Dunlap. She retired after many years as a grocery checker from Safeway in Washington and Raley’s in Yreka.

She met Ronald (Ron) Hogan in Washington and they were married in Idaho in 1982. They were married for 33 years. Ron passed away in Yreka in 2019 after a brief illness. When they married, Ron had three children: Kenneth (Kenny) Hogan, Kathleen (Kathy) Hogan and Lorronda (Rondi) Renaldo. They became a family of eight.

After they were married, they moved to Siskiyou County where Ron had lived for many years prior to meeting Anita. They would eventually purchase a lot in Montague and they put a mobile home on the lot. This was their dream home. They both spent a lot of time making their home beautiful with flowers and trees.

Anita loved the beautiful mountains, especially Mount Shasta, and the foliage of the Pacific Northwest. Both she and Ron also enjoyed travelling to National Parks all across the country. They especially loved the outdoors, even fishing when they could. They were both members of the Big Springs Community Church in Big Springs.

She is survived by her children Shelley Rose, Michael Collier and Ron’s children Kathleen (Kathy) Hogan and Lorronda (Rondi) Renaldo and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, her only sibling (Jeanine Shaffer), and her daughter Tracy.

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 13, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at the Big Springs Community Church in Montague.
