October 18, 1953 – January 26, 2025
Lifelong Etna resident, William Robert “Bill” King passed away unexpectedly on January 26, 2025 at his home.
Bill was born in Etna on October 18, 1953 to William and Leola “Jane” (Hiett) King. Bill was born with Down syndrome, which defined, but did not hinder, his life.
Bill enjoyed his Special Education schooling, and he loved sports. For years, he served as an assistant and a good-luck charm to the Etna High School football, basketball, and baseball teams. Bill avidly and religiously followed the San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers, and the Golden State Warriors. If his preferred teams weren’t on the television, Bill was satisfied with watching other teams – a true sports fan who found joy in the competition.
Bill’s second favorite pastime was watching game shows – whether it be Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, or a game show from decade’s past – Bill was able to find joy in watching the friendly competition.
Bill was sharp as a tack, and possessed a skill that many envy: he never forgot a name. If somebody had the pleasure of meeting Bill once, Bill would certainly remember your name for future encounters, even if years later!
Bill was preceded in death by his father, William. He is survived by his mother, Jane Lord; siblings, Robert Lord of Kentucky and Nancy Medrano of Chico.
A graveside funeral service for Bill will be held on Saturday, February 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Etna Cemetery, with Bishop Ty Thompson officiating.
