Darryl Lyle Ogren

November 24, 1962  –  December 7, 2024

Darryl Lyle Ogren, 62, of Hilt, California, passed away on December 6, 2024. Born on November 24, 1962, in Chula Vista, California, to Sara Ann and Lyle Edwin Ogren, Darryl lived a life full of love, adventure, belly laughs, and dedication. His deep connection to nature and his family shaped everything he did, and he will be remembered for his tireless energy, passionate spirit, and unwavering love for his children.

Growing up in California, Darryl spent his childhood living between Southern California and Northern California. He spent his summers at his family cabin in the Shasta River Canyon, where his love for the outdoors was nurtured by spending time with his brothers hunting and fishing. Those summers fueled a lifelong appreciation for nature that stayed with him until his last days. As a young man, Darryl attended Kingsley Elementary and Damian Catholic School in Pomona, California, before graduating from Coronado High School in 1980. He worked at Alpha Beta as a box boy during his teenage years, but his heart was always connected to his father’s property, Cedar Grove Ranch, in Hilt, where he spent many summers.

After high school, Darryl moved to Poway, California, and in 1982 met Nancy, his future wife, in Moorpark. Darryl went on to study business at Grossmont Community College in San Diego. In 1985, Darryl and Nancy were married in Woodland Hills, California, and the two soon built a life together on Cedar Grove Ranch, where they raised a family and created lasting memories.

Darryl’s professional life included working as a woodsman in the logging industry for Hanscom & King Logging in the late 1980s. He later worked at Albertsons in Ashland, Oregon, a career he held for over 20 years until his retirement in 2017. At Cedar Grove Ranch, he built a home full of love and adventure hosting a variety of animals, from horses and peacocks to llamas and even wild elk. For a time, he also ran a Christmas tree farm, bringing joy to his family and community.

Darryl and Nancy welcomed their first child, Christopher, in 1995, followed by their daughter Bobbi in 1998. They raised their children on the ranch, where their days were filled with caring for animals, exploring and fishing nearby lakes, skiing at Mt. Ashland and Mt. Shasta, and enjoying the beauty of the land. Despite parting ways in 2011, Darryl and Nancy remained committed to their children, supporting them through every milestone, achievement, and important moment. Darryl’s love for his children was immeasurable, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

In his later years, Darryl retired from Albertsons and focused on his property, where he continued to nurture his love of skiing, traveling, and gardening. He became a ski instructor at Mt. Shasta Ski Park, sharing his passion for the sport with others. Darryl also found a special companion in his partner, Kathie Koebel, and together they enjoyed improving the property, spending long days in their garden and relishing in their bountiful harvest, relaxing in local lakes, and making memories in each other’s company.

Darryl was a man of many words, often challenging others to be their best. He lived his life with an infectious enthusiasm, always eager to help others, whether it was giving advice, offering a helping hand, or simply sharing his knowledge. He loved the outdoors, skiing, camping, hiking, and fishing, and spent countless hours riding his motorcycle, swimming in his pool, and connecting with friends and family. Possessing a green thumb, Darryl took pride in his garden and was known for his ability to cultivate life wherever he went.

He was determined, hardworking, and loyal, and his love for his children, animals, and the outdoors were central to his identity. Darryl’s generosity, tenderness, and spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He lived life to the fullest, and he will be dearly missed by all who were touched by his enthusiasm, kindness, and zest for life.

Darryl is survived by his son, Chris (Lacie) Ogren of Bend, Oregon; his daughter, Bobbi Ogren of Chico, California; his brothers, Dan Carty of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Michael Carty of Pomona, California; his partner, Kathie Koebel of Hornbrook, California; and his ex-wife, Nancy Ogren of Yreka, California, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Darryl was preceded in death by his mother Sara Ann Price, father Lyle Edwin Ogren, and brother, Patrick Carty.
