By Coos County Sheriff’s Office
At the tail end of Christmas, we all experienced a strong windstorm throughout Coos County, that seemed to ramp up at nightfall.
On Dec. 25th, two Coos County Deputies and a Bandon Police Officer were conducting a routine DUII investigation on Batson Lane in the Bandon area.
The driver of the involved vehicle, Deputy Burgo and Officer Carpenter were outside their vehicles when the winds quickly picked up which caused several trees to fall. The falling trees struck them all, including the patrol vehicles, causing substantial vehicle damage.
The involved subject was knocked unconscious by a fallen tree, and both Deputy Burgo and Officer Carpenter were also hit and injured. Deputy Burgo and Sgt. Boswell quickly moved towards the unconscious subject, moving him quickly to safety and began first-aid treatment. EMS responded to render additional aid. The unconscious subject and law enforcement received medical treatment on scene and at Bay Area Hospital.
As of Thursday afternoon, everyone injured in the accident is doing “okay,” the Coos County Sheriff’s Office said.
