Marian Rae Mesner Hamilton, Yreka, passed away on 4 November 2024 at her daughter’s home in Yreka.
Marian was born to Harry and Violet Mesner on 5 March 1935, in Klamath Falls, Oregon. After graduating from Klamath Union High School, Marian attended Oregon State University where she met her husband, Charles Wesley “Wes” Hamilton. They were married for 62 years. Marian and Wes lived in Modoc, Siskiyou, and San Bernardino Counties, California, as Wes was pursuing a career in the Forest Service. Wherever they were assigned she served her community by volunteering in the church, Scouting, FFA, and civic organizations, including PTA, Eastern Star, and garden clubs. Marian was an accomplished seamstress, working from her home on new designs, clothing repair, and alterations. Marian and Wes created and operated Crafty Collectibles in Yreka, from 1986 through 2000. The shop specialized in fabrics, alterations, dress design and custom-made wooden toys. Marian and Wes were successful orchardists, raising wild plums and many varieties of berries on their property east of Yreka.
In 2002, Marian began volunteering as a member of the Fairchild Medical Center Auxiliary and Foundation. Marian managed the hospital’s Gift Shop and enjoyed the opportunity to meet with the employees, patients and visitors to the hospital.
As well as being a loving mother and wife, her lifetime of selfless service positively affected the lives of the many people she met along the way.
Marian is survived by her sister, Cindy Narramore (Tom) of Mountain Home, Idaho; son, Harry Hamilton (Dianne) of Madison, Alabama; daughters, Robin Bingham (Neil) of Yreka, California, and Becky Valdez (Robert) of Highland, California; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Marian will be laid to rest at the Malin Cemetery in Malin, Oregon alongside her husband, Wes. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fairchild Medical Center Foundation.
So very, very sorry for the loss of this wonderful lady. I count myself fortunate to have known both her and Wes, and by extension, her family. She shared her stories with me, her wonderful baking and her skill as a seamstress by repairing and altering many of my clothes. I will miss her cheerful smile.
