McCloud’s 10th Annual Apple Harvest

The town of McCloud was packed with people on Saturday enjoying the Apple Harvest Festival that the McCloud Chamber of Commerce hosted for the 10th season. Despite the early morning rain, approximately 6,000 people attended the event according to the Chamber.

Guessing the weight of the giant pumpkin

Many free activities for the whole family filled the downtown streets including the popular apple pie judging contest, guessing the weight of the giant pumpkin, the pumpkin patch, the pumpkin photo booth, fresh apple cider that children got to press themselves, a children’s mini carnival.

The festival hosted over 80 booths of arts, crafts, specialty foods, games, and activities. The pumpkin patch held 100 pumpkins for the children.  Many of the McCloud organizations, including 40 volunteers from the Chamber spent days prior gathering local apples for the festival’s many activities.  There were also 160 apple pies made by locals and sold as a fundraiser for the Chamber.

One of the more popular events was the apple pie contest. Corey Yagle took first place, Deni Duncan got second place, and Eden Debon took third.

And it didn’t end at the Apple Harvest Festival, the McCloud Dance Hall held “Harvest Hoedown” after the festival which included square dancing lessons and a chili supper. And, for those who were worn out by all the day’s activities, the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church invited the public for a nice relaxing tri-tip dinner.

Author Dagny Cannon from Mt. Shasta

Author Dagny Cannon from Mt. Shasta was featured at the McCloud Community Resource Center’s booth at the Apple Harvest Festival on Saturday drawing flocks of children throughout the day. Cannon entertained the children by holding readings throughout the day from her two new children’s books; Juniper and the Magic Glasses, and Juniper and the Magic Shoes. A lifesize character of Juniper was on hand to entertain the children as well.
