Harold Edd Smith
11 Sep 1938 – 22 Sep 2024

On September 22, 2024, Harold Smith, age 86, passed away peacefully at the Madrone Hospice in Yreka. He left behind a legacy of kindness and community spirit. He was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Smith, and grandson, Dillon Smith. He is survived by his son, Marvin Smith and grandchildren Rodney Jr., Jason, Amanda, Dustin and Timmy; a beloved sister, Nellie; and brothers Johnny and Jimmy, who cherished him deeply. Harold was a devoted long-term partner to Dita Tavenner for 26 years, and he also leaves behind her daughter, Katie, and grandchildren, Marley and Wyatt.

A resident of Happy Camp, California for many years, Harold owned a successful logging company before transitioning to ranching after his retirement. Following a devastating fire that claimed his home two years ago in Klamath River, he relocated to Big Springs, California. Throughout his life, Harold was known for his generosity and willingness to help others, earning the respect and love of all who knew him.

Harold was a man of integrity who never spoke ill of anyone, embodying the true spirit of the Western way of life. He was a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation and grew up in Oklahoma and Mitchell, Oregon. Some of his happiest moments were spent rounding up cattle and camping in the Marble Mountains. Harold had a unique ability to connect with people, never meeting a stranger, and his kindness touched many lives.

Harold will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the community he served so faithfully. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date for next summer. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Madrone Hospice in Haroldโ€™s name.
