Federal Decisions Continue to Threaten Rural Communities in Klamath Watershed

“Klamath, Modoc, and Siskiyou Counties have weighed in to urge that federal agencies make a limited amount of water available to bring crops to maturity, realize the benefits of food production, and prevent catastrophic stranding of investment that was necessary to plant and cultivate the crops.  This is the third Tri-Counties letter this year emphasizing that water is available to meet all the needs of farms, fish, and fowl if managed prudently.”

~ Paul Simmons, KWUA Executive Director.

The federal government must take meaningful action to sustain our communities into the long term. By misguided regulation, the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management impoverished our rural communities. Now, the Departments of Interior and Commerce are following suit, keeping us poor. It’s time to change the paradigm.

  • Great article, wish someone in “government “ would step forward and be honest about this mess and fix it for the hard working farmers. They don’t seem to have any problem letting the illegal cannabis growers using up all our water for illicit reasons and making a profit off our resources, really sickening in Big Springs.
