Enhanced Safety Settings: this is the bulk of what has been causing the frequent outages

Pacific Power uses different forms of de-energization to help reduce wildfire risk.

Learn more about reducing wildfire risks with enhanced safety settings, Public Safety Power Shutoff and encroachment strategy in this video below.

Enhanced safety settings (pacificpower.net) – this is the bulk of what has been causing the frequent outages.

·         Enhanced Safety Settings (Elevated Fire Risk (EFR)These settings are used with devices that de-energize lines when a fault is detected, reducing the chance of a potential fire ignition.  A power outage is more likely to occur when these settings are in place.  As a result, if an outage occurs during the 2024 wildfire season, you may experience a longer-than-typical outage as our field personnel work to confirm that power can be safely turned back on.

·         Public Safety Power Shutoff: The decision to implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff is based on extreme weather and area conditions, including high wind speeds, low humidity and critically dry fuels.

·         Emergency De-energization: When an active wildfire moves close enough to threaten burning into the area of our lines or equipment, we may complete an emergency de-energization of our power lines to reduce catastrophic wildfire risk.
