On August 1, 2024, a coordinated effort by multiple fire departments and law enforcement agencies led to the quick containment of a vegetation fire and the subsequent arrest of an arson suspect near Mount Shasta, California.
At approximately 5:30 am, fire personnel from the Mount Shasta Fire Department, Dunsmuir Fire Department, and CAL FIRE Siskiyou Unit responded to reports of a vegetation fire in the area of Big Canyon Drive and Powerline Road. Thanks to their rapid response and efficient action, the fire was contained at approximately ¼ acre, preventing further spread and potential damage.
Following the containment of the fire, law enforcement agencies launched an immediate investigation:
- Video footage from a local resident aided in identifying a suspect.
- The Mt. Shasta Police Department Arson Investigator was called in to assist CalFire Law Enforcement and Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department personnel.
- Officers discovered and followed footprints believed to belong to the suspect.
- The trail led to Mott Road near the Mott Airport, where the suspect was located.
The suspect, identified as Phillip Andy Hennessee, 45, of Paradise, was taken into custody. During an interview, Hennessee confessed to having a campfire the night before the incident. He was subsequently arrested on charges of Arson. The effectiveness of quick response and collaboration between fire services and law enforcement. Their combined efforts not only contained the fire swiftly but also led to the prompt identification and arrest of the suspect.
