On Thursday afternoon, a parade of motorcycles rode up to the front of the Grocery Outlet store in Weed to surprise the store owner, Rodney Barr, with a Resolution.
The group of motorcycles were the American Legion Riders Chapter 92. American Legion Resolutions are used to formally express gratitude to a person or organization.
The resolution that was presented to Rodney Barr says;
Whereas, Rodney Barr sponsored the inaugural George Steel Memorial Poker Run. Whereas, his generous donations of food and supplies significantly contributed to the success of the event, and the funds raised will allow American Legion Riders Chapter 92 to support veterans, military families, and the community. Resolved, that we express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Rodney Barr for his unwavering support of veterans and our community and BE IT FURTHER.
Resolved, that the copy of this resolution be presented for his records.
The Rider’s poker run that Grocery Outlet supported was a fundraiser. Part of the funds raised were contributed to the Rider’s host organization; the American Legion Post 92’s roof fund for a new roof on their building on Broadway Ave. in McCloud. The other part of the fund helped offset the costs of sponsoring a delegate from McCloud to attend the Girl’s State Program through the American Legion Auxiliary.
Barr said, “This is a very generous club working hard to support the veterans and I am proud to be part of it. I love people and groups who are passionate about helping our communities.”
The Grocery Outlet is known to support and sponsor many local community events like the Mt. Shasta Concert Series, Little Leagues and soccer teams in the area, and many other community organizations like the Siskiyou Resource Collaborative.
The Grocery Outlet stores also have a program called “Independence from Hunger.” Right now through the month of July, the Grocery Outlet in Weed is taking donations for the Siskiyou Food Assistance Program. Barr says, “If they reach $5,000, I will match it.”
Rodney Barr’s Grocery Outlet is located at 268 East Vista Drive in Weed and can be found on Facebook.
