CAL FIRE LAW ENFORCEMENT MAKES ARSON ARREST

Yreka, CA – June 20, 2024 – At approximately 5:45 A.M. on June 20, 2024, CAL FIRE’s Yreka Interagency Command Center received a 911 call reporting a wildland fire in the Mt. Shasta Vista area. CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers responded to the scene and conducted an origin and cause investigation.

After interviewing witnesses, CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers, in conjunction with Siskiyou County Sheriff Deputies, arrested Neng Thao, age 47 from Weed, on suspicion of causing multiple fires. Thao was transported to the Siskiyou County Jail and booked on the following charges:

  • California Penal Code 451(c) – Felony Arson
  • California Penal Code 452(c) – Felony Recklessly Causing a Fire
  • Public Resources Code 4421 – Misdemeanor Causing a Fire on Forestland
  • Health and Safety Code 13001 – Misdemeanor Unlawful Burning
