Gary William Turner Obituary

Lifelong Siskiyou County resident, Gary William Turner, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at his home in Grenada. Gary was 78 years old.

Gary was born on January 8, 1946 in Weed to Ed and Helen (Church) Turner. Gary was raised in Siskiyou County. He was born to enter the lumber world. Gary worked for a wide variety of lumber mills, from IP to Hi-Ridge, and everything in between. He was a certified grader, and spent over 30 years in the industry.

Outside of his work, Gary was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying all of the hunting and fishing that Siskiyou County had to offer. In 1972, Gary built his home in Grenada. At that time, it is said, Gary’s house was the third built in his neighborhood, setting a trend of a long-term, close knit, community centered neighborhood that still exists. Gary spent perhaps his most time in his garage as a woodworker, a crafter of wooden toys that he frequently gave away to neighbors, family, and friends. Anybody who frequented his neighborhood knew that Gary was famous for Wednesday Night Poker, hosting folks from all sorts of backgrounds for fun but competitive poker.

Gary also enjoyed wood cutting, bowling (left-handed!) regularly, and talking to the church goers on Sundays. One of his greatest loves was his grandchildren. He loved having the grandkids over, spoiling them, and spending time with them.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gayle (Spurlock) Turner, and a brother, Robert. he is survived by his son, Kevin (Teresa) Turner of Grenada, daughter, Lezlee, a cousin, Joan, and by 5 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

At this time, no services are scheduled for Gary.
