The California High School Rodeo Association (CHSRA) held their 8th rodeo of the season in Etna, CA on April 26-27, 2024. The event showcased the talents of high school rodeo athletes from across the state. Cover photo by https://www.crystalamenphotography.com/rodeo
In the bareback riding event, Quentin Personeni from Oroville emerged victorious with a score of 134. The bull riding event saw Cole Lacy claim the top spot. Jasper Frost from Browns Valley and Cody Cash from Montague took first and second place, respectively, in the saddle bronc riding competition.
Hank Bunting of Red Bluff won the steer wrestling event with a time of 15.94 seconds, followed by Karl Johnson from Etna. Colton Suther from Palo Cedro claimed first place in the tie-down roping event with a time of 20.56 seconds.
The team roping event, which had 24 teams entered, was won by Maisie Heffernan from Fort Jones and her partner Wyatt Stokes. Rainy Minton from Witter Springs and Hank Bunting from Red Bluff secured second place.
In the pole bending event, Devin Kerr from Red Bluff took first place with a time of 44.147 seconds, closely followed by Elthia Gomes from Etna. The breakaway roping event was won by Sienna Radelfinger from Ferndale with a time of 8.72 seconds.
Claire Boles from Orland claimed victory in the goat tying event with a time of 15.66 seconds, while Savannah Kampmann from Orland won the barrel racing competition with a time of 34.195 seconds.
The top performers from this rodeo and throughout the season will advance to the California High School Rodeo Finals in Bishop, CA, from June 8-15, 2024. The National Finals will be held in Rock Springs, Wyoming, from July 14-20, 2024.
The CHSRA also announced that the Junior High Finals will take place in Red Bluff, CA, from May 15-18, 2024, with the National Junior High Finals Rodeo (NJHFR) set to be held in Des Moines, Iowa, from June 23-29, 2024.
The successful event in Etna showcased the dedication and skills of California’s high school rodeo athletes, setting the stage for an exciting finale to the 2024 season.
