Paul Charles McCanna Obituary

Lifelong Yreka resident Paul Charles McCanna passed away unexpectedly on April 22, 2024 at Fairchild Medical Center. He was 62 years old.

Paul was born on March 9, 1962 to Jim and Carolyn McCanna in Yreka. He grew up locally, and was a graduating member of Yreka High School, class of 1980, where he played football and volleyball. Paul worked for 15 years as a Geographic Information System (GIS) Technician for Siskiyou County. Often, when asked what it was he did for a living, he would respond that even he didn’t know how to explain it, so ask somebody else! After that he became self-employed, assisting in beginning the process of developing the anticipated Payne Lane Housing Project.

Outside of work, Paul was dedicated to his friends and family. He played softball, coached Little-League baseball and football, and enjoyed hunting and fishing trips to every corner of Siskiyou County. His outdoor escapades were best enjoyed with his sons and his close friends. He enjoyed traveling to destinations such as Portugal, the Azores Islands, Vietnam, Thailand, Morocco, and more.

Paul is survived by his two sons, Brian and Kevin McCanna; his sisters, Renee McCanna-Crane and June Thomas; his brother-in-law, Dennis Thomas; his mother, Carolyn McCanna; his two grandchildren, Adri and Gunner McCanna; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Paul will be held Saturday May 4th, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Hawkinsville Hall. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
