James Lipke Obituary

James “Jim” Lipke passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024 in Yreka. He was 73 years old.

Jim was born on April 17, 1950 in Oakland to Harry and Eloise Lipke. He spent most of his youth growing up in Forks of Salmon with his parents and siblings, Harry and Barbara.

At the age of 19, Jim joined the U.S. Air Force. He was proud to have served five years, including time serving in the Vietnam War. Following his time in the military, he spent over thirty years working for the U.S. Forest Service. From summers spent on wildfires to improving campgrounds, he loved getting to spend time outdoors.

In 1981, Jim married the love of his life, Susan “Suzi” Morgan. They made their home in Montague, then moved to Yreka in 1983. Together they had two children, Kristen and James (Jimmy). Kristen later married Jason Fleck, whom Jim loved as his second son. Jim was the most loving father, which was only exemplified when he became a grandparent to Colton, Carter and Kaycee. Nothing made him smile more than spending time with them…especially teaching them to ride a quad!

During his life, Jim volunteered for many organizations. He coached softball and baseball for his kids. He spent several years as a member of the Yreka Volunteer Fire Department. But as many know, his passion came with creating and leading the Siskiyou County Off-Road Riders (SCORR). He was not only the long-time president, but he was instrumental in developing and maintaining the extensive trail system and two OHV parks in Siskiyou County.

After retirement, he found joy in chasing grandchildren, watching his son race, and riding quads as much as possible.

At Jim’s request, there will be no funeral. Please join us as we honor him with military honors on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Veterans section at Evergreen Cemetery. A Celebration of his life will follow at The Wine Bar and Bistro in Yreka. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Siskiyou County Off-Road Riders, P.O. Box 1925, Yreka, CA 96097 or Madrone Hospice, 255 Collier Circle, Yreka, CA 96097.
