YREKA, CA: – Local restaurants Smoked Tomato Pie and Roadhouse Bar & Grill will be hosting visits from America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) in mid-March 2024.
America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to Smoked Tomato Pie on March 19th from 9 am to noon PST, and to Roadhouse Bar & Grill on the same day from 2 pm to 5 pm PST. Popular dishes will be highlighted at each location, along with extensive on-camera interviews with the owners about their restaurants’ special place in the community. The episodes will be aired extensively on social media channels at a later date.
Smoked Tomato Pie began when owners Kay and Rob Gebhardt moved to the area and found a lack of good dining. They opened in 2021, bringing their experience in rustic Italian trattoria cooking with wood fired ovens and grills. The minimalist decor keeps the focus on the food items, including their popular PPP pizza and ‘The Marge’, featuring smoked tomatoes and fresh mozzarella.
Roadhouse Bar & Grill, formerly known as Jefferson’s Roadhouse, was built in 2012 as Siskiyou Roadhouse. Owner Michelle Hill just took over the restaurant from the previous owners, the Overstreets, in late 2023. The steakhouse-esque menu offers a solid array of sandwiches, salads, burgers, pasta dishes, steaks and entrees.

The couple met working at an Italian restaurant in New Hampshire, and learned the art of rustic Italian trattoria cooking with wood fired ovens and grills. Smoked Tomato Pie began when the Gebhardts moved to the area and found a lack of good dining. They opened in 2021.
“We wound up out here and found that our little town here really needed some quality food establishment,” Rob explains.
The couple literally put the restaurant together themselves, even pouring their own concrete countertops. The minimalist decor keeps the focus on the food items, although framed photos of iconic musicians and actors from local artist Mimi Bailey decorate the walls. They smoke all their own meats, tomatoes, and jalapenos.
The restaurant offers daily specials and live music on Wednesday nights. A popular pizza sure to be featured on the episode is the PPP, featuring pork (smoked and pulled), pineapple and peppers (jalapenos in the sauce). ‘The Marge’ is also a fan favorite, featuring smoked tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. Salads are giant, and can have pulled smoked meat added, and cannoli is a popular dessert.
