Obituary

Carolyn Jane Hill passed away peacefully at home on Hospice care on November 17, 2023.

Carol was born August 23, 1935 in Marilla, New York to Whitford and Evelyn (Long) Munn, one of six children: Jean, Virginia (Roy), Whitford Jr “Buster”, Richard (Mary), and Onalee (Paul). The family then moved to Wales Center, New York, where Carol met the love of her life Richard “Boot” Hill. They were married February 13, 1954 in New York. With Boot being in the service, they started moving west, eventually ending up in California. First in La Mesa and then El Cajon, where they started their own family. Upon retirement, they traveled by travel trailer and were camp hosts at many campgrounds. They finally settled in Montague, where their son, Mark was living. Eventually the other two kids, Lynn and Eric, settled in Montague also.

Carol enjoyed being a die-hard Dodgers fan, cross-stitching, crocheting, baking, gardening, quick draw competition, camping, dune bugging in the desert with friends, spending time with her family and the Lord. She always had the most beautiful rose gardens.

Later in life, Carol was never without a rescued cat or two. They were as independent as she was.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the neighbors and friends for always checking in on her, Kathy P, Sheila, Lavonne, Yvonne, Kathy E.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Boot; her parents Whit and Evelyn; and siblings Jean and Buster.

She is survived by her children: Lynn Marie (Matt) Pikkaraine of Ottertail, MN, Mark (Phyllis) Hill of Dunsmuir, and Eric (Cathy) Hill of Montague; Grandchildren: Adam, Carolyn, Bryan, Stephanie, Brenna; Great grandchildren: Natalea, Onalea, Tristan, and Evelyn; and her extended family members: many cousins, nieces, and nephews, along with honorary Granddaughter Kristi J.

If you would like to make a donation in Carol’s name, please give to SNIPS Siskiyou County, Rescue Ranch Yreka or Madrone Hospice in Yreka.
