Obituary

Georgia Wright passed away peacefully on September 7, 2023, just 22 days shy of her 80th birthday. Peter and Sydney were by her side.

Georgia and her husband, Peter, made their home in Etna, where they lovingly raised Sydney Wright and Melissa Bacon. They were blessed with grandchildren Rawnie and Maxwell. Georgia adored her grandkids and has always been very proud of them.

Born on September 29, 1943 in Chico, Georgia was the second of three children to William and Margret Reimers. She was raised on the family ranch in Artois, California and attended Orland schools with her sister Sherry Romano and brother Greg Reimers. After graduating from Orland High School in 1961, Georgia attended Chico State, where she met Peter. The two began to date when hamburgers were only 19 cents at Cal’s and the Senator showed the latest movies. In 1962, Georgia transferred to San Jose State University where she obtained her degree and license in Occupational Therapy.

Peter and Georgia were married on October 9, 1965. Shortly after the wedding, Peter received his call to serve his country in the Korean Conflict. During his time in the Army, Georgia worked as an Occupational Therapist in nursing homes and hospitals in California. As newlyweds, forced to be apart, Georgia and Peter wrote daily letters. In 1968, Peter accepted a teaching position at Etna Elementary School. The two made Etna their home and became active members of the community. In 1974, Georgia approached the Siskiyou County Office of Education and convinced them of the need for Occupational Therapy in the schools, serving special needs students. She spent her long career traveling throughout the county, helping disabled students find their abilities and discover a greater sense of pride and independence.

After retirement in 2001, Peter and Georgia traveled the world. Georgia found a love for baseball and the two became frequent fans at Giants Spring Training. Her love of art led them through galleries and museums. She became Peter’s unofficial manager and encouraged his masterful paintings. Throughout the years, Georgia shared her talent of crafting and floral design with her community. She provided beautiful floral arrangements for Sunday church services and celebrations. She truly enjoyed creating Halloween costumes for her children, grandchildren and the staff at Etna Elementary. Her passion for holidays and decorating led to handcrafted Christmas decorations adorning many Etna businesses. Georgia took special delight in dressing flamingos in holiday fashion for her daughter Melissa and then with her daughter Sydney. Georgia was an avid reader and a supporter of the Etna Library. She loved sewing and couldn’t drive past a fabric store without stopping. She spent time in her garden, went camping, loved kayaking with Peter, playing board games, knitting, needlepoint, tatting, weaving and baking pies.

Per her request, no services or celebrations will be planned. Georgia encouraged everyone to call a friend and sit down for coffee. Be present, build community, share a good joke and laugh often.
