Forest Service News Release
Yreka, Calif., August 2, 2023— The USDA Forest Service is offering in-person workshops and webinars on how to prepare an application for a Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG). The 2023 open period for grant application submittal is July 31 to October 31, 2023. The CWDG program is intended to help at-risk-local communities and tribes plan for and reduce the risk of wildfire on private lands. Non-profits, state, county, and community government agencies and Tribes are eligible to apply for grants. Workshops will be available in communities in Northern California and Southern Oregon as well as virtually.
With the goal of reducing the risk of wildfire to people and private property, grants can be used to develop or update Community Wildfire Protection Plans to identify high risk areas.
