May 12th was National Limerick Day

Everyone needs a little bit of silliness in their lives from time to time and National Limerick Day provides a perfect annual opportunity.  National Limerick Day is set on the 12th of May to mark the birthday of Edward Lear, the English writer known for his works of nonsensical prose and poetry.   In honor of National Limerick Day, at our May meeting of the Siskiyou Writers’ Club, some of the members submitted limericks.  Three of them are attached, for your enjoyment.

Two limericks from Alan Eddy:

There once was a girl named Fran,

Who ran away with a boy named Dan,

They frolicked about,

Indoors and out,

But when he proposed, she ran.

There once was a girl named Fran,

Who left all her clothes in her van,

She frolicked about,

Indoors and out,

Until she captured a man.

Limerick from Bob Kaster:

There once was a lass named Alice,

With the Mexican surname Morales.

Alas and alack,

She never came back,

And thus, there was no Morales.
