Harvey “Dale” Blackston passed away peacefully at his home in Montague on February 5th, 2023. Dale was born to Elmer & Virginia Blackston on March 18th, 1936 in Merced, California.

Dale is survived by his two sons: Michael Blackston, Tim Blackston and daughter Kelly Duell. His grandchildren: Mike Blackston Jr., Jason Blackston, Josh Blackston, Amy Garza, DJ McDowell and Billy Yarborough. 10 great grandchildren and his loving friend Zelda Monical.

Dale grew up in and around the Merced area most of his life. He owned and operated HD Saddle Shop for 20 years in Merced. After moving in 1999 to Montague, he opened another business named Dale’s Feed Store and Saddle Shop. Later he worked out of his home doing leather repair after closing and selling the feed store business.

Dale was also a musician from as far back as when he received his first guitar at the age of 7. He sang and played guitar with three groups; “The Partners” and “Country Gents” out of Merced and for the band “Tulsa” out of Montague.

Dale was a simple man and was a small rancher, an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a past president of Merced Horseman’s Association and loved his animals. Most of all he just wanted to play his guitar and sing.

A Graveside Service will be held at the Montague Cemetery on February 15th, 2023 at 1:00 pm followed by a small friends and family Celebration of Life at Casa Ramos in Yreka. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Madrone Hospice 255 Collier Cir. Yreka, CA 96097.
