Billie Louise Hagedorn passed away Tuesday February 7th, 2023 peacefully at the age of 86.

Billie was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Wayne and Hermetta Spencer and was raised with her family in the Ager Beswick area near the Oregon border. She had fond memories of living near her grandparents. She loved riding with her grandfather while he delivered the mail and cooking with her grandmother.

Billie attended Bogus Elementary School, which was a one room schoolhouse and she was the only graduate of her 8th grade class. She moved to Yreka to live with the Herman Spannaus family so she could attend Yreka High School. While attending high school, Billie met the love of her life, Virgil (Jim) Hagedorn. They were married July 8th, 1955. They enjoyed many adventures together: camping, trips to Reno, and taking jet boat trips with special friends and family.

Billie was always busy making others feel loved. She was a teacher’s aide at Little Shasta School as well as Montague Elementary School. She was an avid volunteer and served her community as a member of the Daughters of the Nile and the Montague Trail Riders. Billie was often found on election day counting votes with her community members. She helped make many local benefit dinners happen alongside her husband Jim.

Billie loved to have fun! She always looked forward to participating in the Montague Variety Show, dancing and acting in skits. She also loved her Montague Ladies Pinochle Club.

Billie and Jim owned several businesses including Jim’s Shasta Valley Meats, The Country Variety and Hagedorns Catering. When she wasn’t working she could be found making her famous bread, pickles and homemade jams. Billie was an excellent cook and always had a little extra for that unexpected dinner guest.

Jim and Billie had three children: Gary (Roxann) Hagedorn, Kathy Hagedorn, Julie (Bob) Rodgers; grandchildren: Madison, Megan and Colby Rodgers, Nick Van Loan, Casey and LIndsay Awbrey.

Billie is survived by her children, her sister Donna Jespersoon, Ardyce Van Oss; sister-in-laws Susan Spencer, Kathy Spencer; brother-in-laws Harvey Hagedorn and Gerald (Short) Hagedorn, as well as several nieces and nephews, and our extended family and the Lightle family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, brothers Gene Spencer and Dewayne Spencer.

Billie will be laid to rest beside her husband Jim on Friday, February 17th, 2023. A funeral service will be held at Girdner Funeral Chapel at 11:00 am with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. A reception will be held to celebrate Billie’s life immediately following at the Yreka Elks Lodge. If you would like to bring a salad or desert, that would be appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Madrone Hospice: 255 Collier Circle, Yreka CA 96097 or the Alzheimer’s Association.
