A beautiful blue-eyed baby girl was born to Katherine Barbieri Fruzza and Jimmie Fruzza on July 17, 1940. Fittingly, her name was Nancy Joy. She was a lifelong resident of Weed, California, attending Weed Elementary and Weed High School before acceptance to UC Berkeley with honors in 1958 where she was a biochemistry major. Nancy married the love of her life, David Lemos of Weed, in 1961 at the Holy Family Parish. Their close-knit family grew with the births of their three children to whom they were unfailingly devoted. Nancy worked for the City of Weed as a clerk and police dispatcher; she later became the manager of the College of the Siskiyous bookstore and retired after 18 years. Her courtesy toward students and staff, along with exemplary accounting skills, made her a natural fit for the position, which she enjoyed immensely.
Nancy’s many interests included gardening, watching professional and youth sports in which her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren participated. She loved combining her cooking talents with her love of family time. Travels across North America and Europe with Dave were particularly memorable, including a trip with cousins to meet their Italian relatives and see the village from where their maternal grandmother emigrated. Nancy used her fluent Italian that she had learned from grandparents on both sides, to communicate with locals and navigate the beautiful province of Tuscany.
She was a gregarious, loving and generous person who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her colorful personality was enduring and memorable to everyone she met. Often described as “a character”, her presence at gatherings increased the fun factor tenfold. With family at her side, Nancy passed peacefully on December 4, 2022; may she rest in peace.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 61 years David Lemos, daughter Trudy Pellizzari of Redding, son Jerry Lemos of Yreka, brother Ed Fruzza of Redding, grandchildren Jordan Pellizzari of San Francisco, Jamie Robertson of Palo Cedro, Robyn Akana and Ashley Lemos of Yreka, and six great grandchildren ranging in age from six years to two months old. She was preceded in death by daughter Julie Renay Lemos.
