CalFire Protects Town in Off-Season

By Shareen Strauss

If people are wondering what CalFire is doing along Highway 89 near the unincorporated town of McCloud, they are working on creating a shaded fuel break to help protect the McCloud community.

Cutting down and removing dead trees and underbrush helps eliminate fuel sources along the road.

The CalFire Station on Squaw Valley Road staffs 2 engines with a minimum total of 6 firefighters at any given time. When they are not engaged in mitigating incidents or training, the firefighters work out in the woods along the roadways to secure a healthy fuel break.

Fire Captain Casey Cohen says," Hopefully, the McCloud community can appreciate seeing their tax dollars at work."
