Siskiyou Museum, a hidden gem in plain site

The exhibit, entitled Reeling ‘em In, Siskiyou Sportfishing Through the Decades, will be up through the end of the year. This rotating exhibit is part of the Friends of the Siskiyou County Museum’s effort to bring new and exciting things to the museum. It was sponsored by the Friends and by the Siskiyou Credit Union, with objects on loan from Sisson Museum and community members, and facilitated by two “guest curators,” Bruce Stiny from Dunsmuir and Jill Livington from Klamath River.

This “fish can” is just one of the artifacts to be found in a new exhibit on display in the foyer of the Siskiyou County Museum in Yreka. It was designed to ride on the side of a mule and used to transport fish raised at the Mt. Shasta Fish Hatchery to high mountain lakes. The display contains two long cases filled with artifacts, and the wall behind them features related photographs and descriptive panels.
