Clifford Robert Bullerwell, 75, lifelong resident of Mt. Shasta, passed away suddenly in a place he loved on July 13, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. His final moments were spent in one of his very favorite places—the Coastal Redwoods—surrounded by the beauty of the trees, the love of his family, and the gentle sound of the Smith River nearby.
Clifford was the youngest child of Willard and Phyllis Bullerwell and is survived by Paige, his beloved wife of 50 years; his daughters, Crystal (Zac) Aston and Megan (Steven) Scharpf; his brothers, Willard (Jerrie) Bullerwell, Geary Bullerwell, and David (Carol) Bullerwell; his five cherished grandchildren; Charlotte, Maddox, and Elsie Aston, and Quentin and Hendrix Scharpf, along with many loving nieces and nephews. To those who knew him best, Clifford was a devoted husband, an amazing father, a beloved Papa, and a loyal friend whose steady presence, humor, and love will be deeply missed.
Clifford was a graduate of Mt. Shasta High School and attended College of the Siskiyous. He was proud to serve his country in Vietnam and was honored with the Medal of Commendation upon his discharge.
Throughout his life, Clifford was known for his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and unwavering moral character. He provided for his family in his early years through his work at Champion Plywood in McCloud before transferring to International Paper Company in Weed, where he worked in the woods operating heavy equipment to build logging roads. He later returned to Champion, where he remained until its closure in 1984.
Clifford went on to complete his working career with the City of Mount Shasta Public Works Department, where he served for over 30 years. He also gave generously of his time and heart as a member of the Mount Shasta Fire Department for 24 years, serving as Captain and later as Deputy Chief. One of his great joys was serving as chairman of the Fireman’s Association’s Santa’s Sleigh, where he helped bring wonder, laughter, and holiday magic to the children of his community.
Clifford loved life, and he loved his people fiercely. He was always ready to throw a softball around with his daughters and host crowds of highschoolers at his home, laughing as his daughters and their friends ate him out of house and home. During camping trips to Jedediah Smith State Park, he taught his kids how to fish, set up a camp and to whittle sticks to roast marshmallows.
In the role of “Papa”, he found joy in simple, meaningful moments—attending his grandchildren’s’ sporting activities, and sharing time with family and friends. Some of his favorite moments were traveling the country with his “bride,” Paige, who was and forever will be the love of his life. His love, strength, stories, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 31, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Mount Shasta. Immediately following the service, family and friends are invited to attend a graveside ceremony with a military salute. A reception celebrating Clifford’s life will follow at the Upper Lodge at Mount Shasta City Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly encourages donations to Santa’s Sleigh in Clifford’s honor.
