Local author Tara Darlene Smith will be the featured guest at a special community event, Tea with Tara, on Saturday, April 25, at 1:00 p.m. at the Yreka Library, 719 Fourth St.
Smith, a California native who has lived everywhere from Sacramento to Iraq and Ireland, now calls Siskiyou County home. Her book, Sunflowers in Iraq: True Stories of Surviving & Thriving, draws on her firsthand experiences in a combat zone, weaving together candid accounts of war, family, mental health, and love.
In her writing, Smith advocates for the healing power of Equine Therapy, counseling, and group therapy — and credits no small amount of recovery to the unconditional companionship of a golden retriever.
The afternoon promises tea, storytelling, and an intimate look at one woman’s journey from the front lines to the foothills of Northern California.
The event is free and open to the public. Stop by the Yreka Library on April 25th and join Tara for an afternoon of stories.
