In California‚ three percent of children are raised by their grandparents. In some counties in the 1st Senate District‚ that share is nearly twice as high.
Raising children does not get any cheaper when you’re doing it the second time around‚ and yet many benefits available to assist parents – such as the Earned Income Tax Credit – are only available to working parents and not retirees.
That’s why I have introduced Senate Bill 1096‚ to provide tax relief for grandparents raising grandchildren while in retirement.
