On January 31, 2026, a peaceful sidewalk anti-ICE, anti-Trump protest was held for a couple of hours in front of the Health and Human Services building on Main Street in Yreka. We had about 45 people protesting. Most protesters held homemade signs sharing their First Amendment protected right to share their opinions on ICE, President Trump or telling the people to RESIST. There were lots of responses from the people driving by on Main St. Most honked their horns and gave us the thumbs up sign. A few drove by and gave us the thumbs down or the middle finger.
We had one protester driving a fairly new diesel-powered black pickup that must have been a strong Trump supporter. As he drove by us, he swerved about mid-way into the parking lane in front of us and revved up his diesel engine to blast us with black smoke. Luckily none of us were standing in the parking lane. This showed us that some pro-Trumpers will even use aggressive behavior to get their opinions across.
What type of person takes dangerous aggressive action against peaceful protesters? The internet describes this type of person as having an aggressive personality that needs to dominate and control situations by using confrontation, intimidation, force or manipulation tactics. I think this accurately describes this man who threatened us with his pickup.
This type of personality is what motivates many ICE agents. We see the results of this when we watch ICE agents confronting immigrants, American citizens of color and protesters on TV and internet news clips. I think we just experienced an example of this aggressive behavior type here in Yreka.
