Fire remains uncontained as 653 personnel battle 2,627-acre blaze in Klamath National Forest
SISKIYOU COUNTY, CA โ The Blue Fire burning in the Klamath National Forest has grown to 2,627 acres with zero percent containment, prompting evacuation orders for multiple zones as firefighters work to protect structures in the Seiad Valley and Walker Creek areas.
Current Fire Conditions
The wildfire continues its active spread north and northwest, driven by rollout conditions where burning material rolls downhill and ignites surrounding vegetation. Fire officials observed predicted fire weather conditions yesterday, with spotting reported on the fire’s north side. While westward movement is expected to continue, minimal expansion is anticipated on the eastern flank.
Firefighting Efforts
A total of 653 personnel are currently assigned to the incident, focusing on structure protection and containment strategies. Firefighters have constructed contingency lines along two key ridges:
- Grider Ridgeย to the west, running parallel to the Pacific Coast Trail
- Slinker Ridgeย to the east
Extensive structure protection measures include miles of hose lines and sprinkler systems requiring substantial water resources. In an environmentally conscious approach, water is sourced from deeper sections of the Klamath River rather than shallow tributaries that serve as critical habitat for migrating salmon and steelhead. Resource advisors coordinate closely with firefighters and the Karuk Tribe on these efforts.
Weather Outlook
Improving conditions are forecast for the coming days. Temperatures are expected to decrease while relative humidity rises, which should help moderate fire behavior. Officials anticipate reduced fire intensity with incoming weather patterns and moisture expected early next week.
Evacuations and Closures
Evacuation Orders are currently in effect for:
- Zone SIS-1007-A
- Zone SIS-1117
- Zone SIS-1118-B
Evacuation Warnings remain active for:
- Zone SIS-1007-B
- Zone SIS-1118-A
- Zone SIS-1118-C
- Zone SIS-1233-A
Trail Impact
The Pacific Crest Trail faces significant disruption, with closures between the Kelsey National Recreation Trail junction (mile 1632.1) and Seiad Valley (mile 1656). Officials warn that closures will extend north of Seiad Valley, and southbound long-distance hikers should not continue past Mt. Ashland in Oregon.

One Comment
Aren’t these recent wildfires in the Klamath drainage on ‘indigenous’ lands? I thought that ‘indigenous wisdom’ was supposed to prevent wildfires like these? Right? Isn’t that what they’ve been selling?
