On July 1, 2025 at the age of 96, Jean Marie Johnson (Richardson) went to be with the Lord. She passed away in Yreka, California.
Jean was born May 1, 1929 in Dunsmuir, California to Jim Richardson and Geneva Richardson (Grace). Jean was the oldest of four children, with Wayne, Patricia, and Daniel all having passed away before her.
She married Robert Prouty and they had two children, Nancy Hoy (Prouty) and Diana Houdashelt (Prouty), eventually moving to Bobโs family farm in Wisconsin. Jean and Bob divorced, and Jean returned to Siskiyou County with her daughters.
Jean met the love of her life, Buddy H. Johnson, in Weed, California and they were married until he passed away in 1997. The family left Weed and lived in Alturas for a few years as part of Budโs railroad tenure before returning to Dunsmuir. They lived right across from the railroad tracks in Dunsmuir and Jean was lovingly referred to as โGrandma Choo-Chooโ by her five great grandchildren.
Jean worked at the local optometristโs office as the office manager and continued in that role until she retired. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, and spending much of the summer at the familyโs cabin on Medicine Lake. Both her home and the cabin were filled with her handicrafts and a vast collection of frog statues. Jean enjoyed services at the Church of Christ in Dunsmuir, and was an active member of the church community for many years.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Buddy H. Johnson, her eldest daughter Nancy and son-in-law Bill Hoy, her youngest daughter Diana, and Dianaโs son, Richard โRickyโ Houdashelt.
Jean is survived by her grandson Eric Hoy and his wife Yvette, her granddaughter Debbi Lara (Hoy) and her husband, Daryl; her five great grandchildren, including Aaron Hoy and his wife Megan, Christabelle Molchen and her husband Joshua, Brian Hoy and his wife Shelly, Brigette Rodrigues and her husband Michael, and Kourtney Houdashelt. She had five great great grandchildren: Elden, Seagan, Rusty, Elizabeth, and D.B.
A private service will be held for the family.
