Code Duane Currie
August 28, 1963ย ย –ย ย May 22, 2025

Code Duane Currie was born the third child of Sonny and Karen Currie in Yreka, California. He lived his whole life in Siskiyou County and passed away at his home in Montague on May 22, 2025.

After attending high school and playing football for the Yreka Miners, he went to work at Roseburg Forest Products in Weed. While there, he continued to play football for College of the Siskiyous, with his mom and Gramma June attending every single game. Code would watch the log trucks from the mill where he worked, and he decided that trucking was the career path for him. He worked for several trucking companies and eventually bought his first truck in 2005. He was successful at running his own trucking company for twenty years.

Code met his wife, Chela, in 2007, and they married in 2009. They ran their trucking and cattle businesses together for 16 years. In 2020, Codeโ€™s stepson, Forest, brought him new joy to the world with the birth of his grandson, Hunter Sidebottom. Code was devoted to him.

Code also loved team roping on his favorite Roanie pony. They competed in the ACTRA finals in Reno several times and did well. Code was a passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and never missed a game, traveling to many live events, and even went to see them in Pittsburgh twice! One of Codeโ€™s favorite childhood memories was traveling into the Ukonom/Marble Mountains with his Grandpa Keith and Gramma June. He told stories of the trips, and how he rode Popcorn the whole way. He loved traveling with his wife, and they made Costa Rica a favorite destination, where they went many times with friends and family.

Code is preceded in death by his mother, Karen Currie, and by a cousin-raised-like-a-brother, David Lee Rose. He is survived by his father, Sonny Currie; his wife, Chela; stepson Forest and grandson Hunter; his brothers, Smoke (Vickie), Shannon (Shannon); sister Troy (Ben); sister in law Rita Rose, cousin Diane Rose, cousin Dale Rose, and nieces Tiffany, Megan, Jordan, Callie, and Rachel, and nephews JD, Ben, Blake, and Ty. There are many more, too many to list.

Code was a tough acting but sweet man who led with his heart and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Codeโ€™s life will be held at the Montague City Park, near the pool, on Saturday, June 14 at 2:00 pm. Please bring a side dish and some stories to share!
