It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and papa. Steve passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by family after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer at the age of 74 on Wednesday, April 30 at 3:55 p.m.
Steve was born on February 12, 1951 in Yreka at Siskiyou General Hospital on Main Street to Charles Wesley โPopโ and Lillian Belle โLilly Belleโ Snelling Rose. Steve attended Grenada Elementary School, Yreka High School, and his senior year (1969) he graduated from Shasta High School.
In 1970, Steve and his first wife welcomed their daughter, Ginger, into the world, followed by Cinnamon in 1971 and Misty in 1972. In 1981, Steve met and married his wife, Darla, bringing his 3 daughters into the marriage, and Darla bringing her one year old daughter, Kymberly, into their marriage. In 1983, they welcomed their son, Levi into the world. Steve was very proud of all of his children.
Steve worked at Simpson Paper Mill in Anderson, California for many years before eventually retiring and relocating his family back to Yreka. He enjoyed working in his yard, watching the San Francisco Giants and 49ers (a lot of yelling at the TV), playing albums on his turntable for hours โ the Beatles being his favorite โ doing Estate Sales with his wife Darla, but mostly he enjoyed his grandchildren.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lillian, his brothers, Warren and Robert โBobbyโ Rose, his sisters, Dorothy โDotโ Strang and Joyce Aseltine, and by his infant daughter, Summer Sundance Rose.
Steve is survived by his loving wife Darla, with whom he shared 44 wonderful years; his daughters, Ginger and Misty Rose of Alaska, Cinnamon (Steven) Goncalves of Rhode Island, Kymberly (Seth Horn) Rose of Montague, and son Levi (Shyla) Rose of Montague; grandchildren: Haley and Jace Goncalves, Shyanne (Parker) Jones, Ethan and Isiah Killingsworth, Kathleen Donahue, Adelyn, Aria, and Brea Rose; great-grandsons Xander Butterfly and Brantley Robert Jones; his brother Carl (Barbara) Rose of Chico and his sister Dolli (Jesse) Burnett of Lakeport; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Papa, you were greatly loved and will be forever missed. Our hearts are broken, but we take comfort knowing you are in Heaven watching over us. We love you always!
There will be a Celebration of Life, to be announced in June.
