Tribal health and human services division accepting applications through June 19; pay ranges from $21 to $28 an hour.
ORLEANS โ The Karuk Tribe Health and Human Services (KTHHS) division is hiring a full-time custodian to keep its Orleans-area facilities clean and in working order. The position is open to applicants now, with a deadline of 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2026.
The custodian reports to the clinic manager and rotates among five sites: the Medical Clinic, the Department of Natural Resources administrative office, the Somes Bar Work Center, the Fisheries Office, and the Panamnik Center. The job is classified as full time, non-exempt and regular, and pays $21.00 to $28.00 per hour depending on experience. Hours may fall outside the standard 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. window so cleaning does not disrupt other staff.
The Work
Duties cover the full range of janitorial work โ sweeping, mopping and scrubbing floors; vacuuming carpets; cleaning and disinfecting restrooms; dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures; washing windows; emptying waste receptacles; and restocking supplies. The custodian also moves furniture and equipment, replaces light bulbs, locks up buildings, and operates scrubbers, buffers, waxers and shampooers. The role includes reporting needed repairs, light grounds maintenance, and helping shovel snow during winter months.
What’s Required
Applicants should know cleaning supplies, equipment and safe work practices, and be able to work reliably without close supervision. The job is physical: candidates must be able to stand and walk for long stretches; stoop, kneel and crouch; and lift up to 50 pounds without assistance. A valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and insurability under the Tribe’s carrier are required, along with adherence to HIPAA and tribal confidentiality policies.
Hires must pass a pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background check, and must provide documentation of immunity to measles and rubella (or be vaccinated), the hepatitis B vaccine, a tuberculosis test at hire, and an annual health exam with a flu shot or exemption.
Hiring Preference
Under TERO Ordinance 93-O-01, the Tribe observes Tribal Preference in hiring. The Karuk Tribe also extends Veteran’s Preference to qualified applicants discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces under honorable conditions. The Tribe’s Drug & Alcohol Policy applies.
