Would you support bringing grizzly bears back to California?

A pending bill in the Legislature, SB 1305, proposes a study of whether it is feasible to reintroduce the grizzly bear into California — including in the mountains of the North State.

For some, this is a restoration of an animal that is a symbol of California — still on the state flag — and is of spiritual importance to Native Americans. For others, the risks of deadly encounters with livestock and people are just too high.

I share the concerns of ranchers and many elected sheriffs around the Senate district about public safety, and I oppose this bill. The North State is already struggling to deal with gray wolves. The last thing rural areas need is yet another top predator.

All the same, it’s important to hear what my constituents think, and I welcome hearing the views of all. What do you think?

Please take this short survey to share your thoughts.

Thank you.
