A early-morning fire at Bruce’s Towing on Greenwood Road in Yreka on April 10 destroyed much of the yard’s impounded vehicle inventory, with the Yreka Fire Department assisted by CAL FIRE-SKU. Officials reported 53 vehicles were damaged, with most expected to be declared total losses. No firefighters or civilians were injured, and the cause remains under investigation.
The blaze prompted a temporary shelter-in-place order for residents in the Hiram Page and Greenhorn areas due to elevated particulate matter from burning vehicles. The order was lifted by mid-morning once the immediate threat was resolved, though the city advised those with respiratory sensitivities to remain cautious as smoke and particulate matter could linger.
