Siskiyou County June Primary Takes Shape With Contested Races for Judge, Supervisor, Schools Chief

Several incumbents face challengers as candidate filing closes for June 2, 2026 election

YREKA โ€” The field is set for Siskiyou County’s June 2, 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election, with contested races emerging for Superior Court judge, county supervisor seats in two districts, superintendent of schools, and auditor-controller.

County Clerk Laura Bynum, who is running unopposed finalized the candidate list as of March 11, 2026.

Superior Court

Incumbent Superior Court Judge Kendall W. Hannon, who has held “Office 4”, faces a challenge from Michael DeArton, a Superior Court commissioner. Hannon is campaigning at hannon4siskiyou.com. DeArton can be reached atย [email protected].

Board of Supervisors

Two supervisor seats are on the ballot, and both drew enough interest to trigger an extended filing period. The Siskiyou County Elections Office extended the nomination deadline through March 11 for Districts 3 and 5 after their respective incumbents did not file during the standard window โ€” a procedural step under California Elections Code that opens the field to non-incumbent candidates.

In District 3, incumbent Michael N. Kobseff does not appear on the candidate list. Two candidates filed: Mario C. Burch, a heavy equipment mechanic, and Bianca A. Garza, a nonprofit director.

In District 5, incumbent Ray Haupt also does not appear on the candidate list. Benjamin L. Bishop, a farrier, logger and outfitter, and Carl S. Hammond, a rancher and e-commerce consultant, are competing for the seat.

Superintendent of Schools

Incumbent Allan S. Carver faces two challengers for the county schools superintendent post: Mark Greenfield, a retired school administrator, and Michelle Hogue, a principal and program manager. The office requires a valid credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Assessor-Recorder

The Assessor-Recorder race also had its filing period extended, as incumbent Craig Kay did not file. Roseann M. Kerr, a county appraiser III, filed as the sole candidate for the position.

Auditor-Controller

Incumbent Diane Olson faces a challenge from Sherry Lawson, a deputy county administrator, for the Auditor-Controller seat.

Treasurer-Tax Collector

Incumbent Jennifer J. Taylor filed for re-election and is running unopposed.
