CHP Impounds Vehicles Linked to Illegal Street Racing and Reckless Driving in Shasta County

REDDING, Calif. — The California Highway Patrol impounded four vehicles linked to illegal street racing and reckless driving following two investigations that began earlier this year.

The first investigation began in January after reports that several motorcycles were participating in an illegal roll race westbound on State Route 44 near Shasta View Drive. CHP investigators identified the motorcycles involved and ultimately issued four vehicle seizure orders under California Vehicle Code section 14602.7(a)(1).

A second investigation started in March after CHP investigators saw a Dodge Charger drifting in circles in a busy intersection, creating a dangerous situation for drivers and pedestrians. Officers were unable to stop the vehicle at that moment, but investigators later identified it and issued a similar seizure order.
