Three national forests spanning Northern California are recruiting seasonal employees for the upcoming recreation season, with positions available across a wide region from the Oregon border to Redding.

The Klamath, Six Rivers, and Shasta-Trinity national forests announced their hiring plans Wednesday, collectively seeking workers for campground operations, trail maintenance, recreation services, and forestry work.
“Our seasonal employees are the backbone of summer operationsโkeeping our campgrounds, trails, and recreation sites open, safe and welcoming for visitors,” said Shasta-Trinity Forest Supervisor Rachel Birkey, echoing similar statements from her counterparts at the other forests.
The Shasta-Trinity is recruiting for up to 35 technician positions at duty stations in Redding, Hayfork, Weaverville, and Mount Shasta. Workers will serve areas including Shasta Lake, Mount Shasta, and several wilderness areas.
Six Rivers National Forest has openings at locations including Mad River, Gasquet, Willow Creek, Orleans, Eureka, and Arcata. The Klamath National Forest, headquartered in Yreka, is hiring for recreation and visitor services, trail and facility maintenance, and active resource management roles.
Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz said the agency has streamlined its hiring process to allow seasonal employees to begin work earlier, creating more opportunities for rural residents to find jobs close to home.
“Local residents bring invaluable knowledge, pride, and a strong connection to the places we care for,” Schultz said.
These positions are separate from seasonal firefighting jobs, for which hiring is already underway.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and apply through USAJOBS.gov. Application periods, qualifications, and start dates vary by position. More information about Forest Service careers is available at fs.usda.gov/working-with-us/careers.
