FORT JONES, CALIF. โ The Northern California Resource Center (NCRC) proudly announces its 30th anniversary in 2025, marking three decades of dedicated service to Siskiyou Countyโs land management, economy, and cultural vitality. Founded in 1995 by Scott Valley native, biologist and musician Larry Alexander, NCRC was established to support the community in managing its natural resources in a professional manner. The organization has since evolved into a multifaceted force, not only training and employing a local workforce in watershed health and restoration but also becoming a cornerstone for community development and artistic expression.
From its original location on Rattlesnake Creek Road, NCRCโs growth reflects its expanding mission. The organizationโs legacy of building essential community institutions includes founding and administering numerous local Fire Safe Councils, biomass utilization groups, and the Siskiyou County Film Commission. This foundational work paved the way for its current headquarters in Fort Jones: the Resource & Event Center (The REC). This facility stands as a testament to NCRCโs enduring commitment, serving as both an operational base and a vital hub for community gatherings and events.
A significant part of NCRCโs evolution has been its passionate support for the arts, a natural extension of founder Larry Alexanderโs own background as a musician and founding member of the band Afterglow. This commitment is embodied in the opening of “The Glow,” a versatile, state-of-the-art event space, and the development of the affiliated Afterglow Studios. For years, NCRC has actively cultivated the local arts scene by producing the annual GlowFest film festival, making the new venue a permanent home for this creative mission. To celebrate this new era and the 30-year milestone, NCRC will host โGlowFest Expressโ on November 8, 2025, featuring local music videos, films, and a performance by the acclaimed Steely Dan tribute band, Steely Dean.
Reflecting on this special anniversary, Founder Larry Alexander shared, โI want to thank the many people who have worked so hard over the years to make NCRC the community asset it has become. This special milestone would not have been possible without the many people of Siskiyou County who have dedicated themselves professionally and personally to the effort.โ From professional forestry to fire safety and from farming to film, NCRCโs 30-year legacy is one of empowering local residents to build a stronger, more vibrant, and resilient community.
