Mount Shasta, CA โ A tragic climbing accident on Mount Shasta resulted in the death of a solo climber over the weekend, according to the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Service.
On Friday at approximately 3:45 p.m., a 911 call reported a climber who had fallen on the Clear Creek Route of Mount Shasta. The caller, who witnessed the incident, described cloudy conditions at the time of the accident. The climber, navigating a descent, had veered off-route, slipped on snow, and subsequently fell. After an initial slide of about 200 feet, the climberโs fall was briefly halted before they fell again in steep terrain, sustaining fatal injuries.

A Forest Service rescue team reached the climber later that day but confirmed the individual had already succumbed to their injuries. The following day, a helicopter team successfully recovered the body. Information regarding the climberโs identity is being handled by the Siskiyou County Sheriffโs Office. Authorities urge climbers to exercise caution, stay on designated routes, and be prepared for sudden changes in weather.
