Train Derailment Blocks Dunsmuir Rail Crossings, Alternate Route Available

DUNSMUIR – The train has been derailed since at least 7:30 am, Monday September 1, 2025; A single-car train derailment in Dunsmuir’s South Railyard is blocking two major rail crossings and backing up freight traffic on Monday, September 1st, with the disruption expected to continue for most of the day.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that both the Butterfly Avenue and Scherrer Avenue railroad crossings are blocked due to the derailment. Residents needing to cross the tracks are being directed to use the Crag View railroad crossing as an alternate route.
