Dear Editor:
We read the letter to the Editor in the last issue, regarding Congressman LaMalfa. The writer mentioned the dis-interest Mr. LaMalfa has for many of his constituents.
We have tried communicating with his office several times over the years. Some of our comments could have been considered ‘right’ leaning, and some were ‘left-leaning’. We were treated respectfully and with interest when our comments were ‘right-leaning’, while when they were ‘left-leaning’, we were treated rudely and with an uncaring attitude.
Combined with Mr. LaMalfa’s increasing payoffs in the form of subsidies, and his apparent lock-step with the far right, this is disturbing. When an elected representative ignores and disrespects almost half their constituents, something is wrong. Yes, that is the case for our new federal government, but it’s sad that he and his staff aren’t trying to correct it. The only way the US will reclaim its position as a good country is to find that middle ground.
Sincerely,
Jim Keeler
