If These Jail Walls Could Talk…
Listen, I’m just a bunch of concrete and steel, but after 40 years as the Siskiyou County Jail, I’ve seen some stuff. Last week~
First, Justin Harrison Jr. shows up Monday. “See you soon, buddy,” I whispered to my booking desk. Sure enough—Tuesday, Wednesday, AND Friday he’s back! Kid’s got frequent flyer miles with us. By Thursday, even my security cameras were rolling their electronic eyes.
Then we get Shichao Cai and Yanfeng Liang—two guys from Elk Grove with enough marijuana charges to start their own dispensary. My intake officer’s thinking, “What are the odds?” About the same as Leland Devoile setting signal fires to communicate with law enforcement, apparently. Old Leland burned half of Grenada trying to play Paul Revere, except instead of “The British are coming!” it was “The drug dealers are here!”
Don’t get me started on the DUI parade. My holding cells started playing drinking game bingo: Christina Campbell, Alejandro Garcia, Richard Hurtado—like a drunk driver convention rolled through town. My breathalyzer machine filed for workers’ compensation.
The real entertainment was Lanzer Trice, who collected charges like Pokemon cards. Failure to appear, drug possession, more failure to appear—I started wondering if he was going for some kind of record. Even Megan Yandell couldn’t stick around, allegedly trying to flee with her kid.
My favorite part? When that enthusiastic deputy connected all the dots into some grand conspiracy. Kid, sometimes a busy week is just a busy week. But hey, at least it keeps me entertained between the crickets and the snoring.
Trust me, if these walls could really talk, we’d need our own Netflix series.
