Yreka, Ca- CAL FIRE will be assisting the Shasta Valley Resource Conservation District with a prescribed burn one day in the weeks of June 23-July 3 weather permitting. The specific burn location will Yreka Ridge. However, the specific burn dates may be subject to change based on forthcoming weather patterns and resource’s availability. The proposed prescribed broadcast burn is planned for 27 acres of grass. The project will be separated into manageable sections that will be burned when climate conditions are optimal, ensuring control, limiting escape, and minimizing poor air quality. If there are any indications that the burn cannot be conducted in a safe manner, such as high winds or other fire activity, the burn will be rescheduled.
The control burn will start at approximately 9:00 A.M. and be completed by 7:00 P.M. for two to three days to complete the project. Residents should expect to see smoke during the burning operations throughout the City of Yreka and very visible from Interstate 5.
