The Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution on June 3, 2025, recognizing Rescue Ranch for over a decade of dedicated service to the community and its partnership with the county’s Animal Control department.
Partnership Helps Maintain No-Kill Status
Rescue Ranch has been instrumental in helping Siskiyou County Animal Control maintain its “No Kill” status for nearly a decade. The organization takes in hundreds of dogs annually, with 61 canines accepted into their adoption program as of May 2025. They currently house over 70 dogs due to Animal Control’s heavy caseload and space constraints.
Emergency Response and Fire Evacuations
Beyond routine animal rescue operations, Rescue Ranch has expanded its role to include emergency response during fire evacuations. The organization operates an evacuation center where they shelter displaced animals, maintain intake records, and provide care until owners can safely return home. This service has proven crucial during California’s increasingly frequent wildfire emergencies.
Medical Care Through Kitu’s Fund
The rescue has also established Kitu’s Fund, which provides medical care for injured animals that might otherwise face euthanasia due to serious injuries or illness. This program demonstrates the organization’s commitment to giving every animal a chance at recovery and adoption.
Law Enforcement Support
Rescue Ranch has supported local law enforcement by providing holding facilities during activities requiring temporary housing for large numbers of dogs, adding another layer to their community service.
The resolution praised Rescue Ranch for conducting their work “with integrity, fairness in all things, and with the highest ethical standards,” noting that their impact extends throughout the entire county. The organization’s willingness to help even when facing overwhelming workloads and space limitations has made them an essential partner for county services.
This recognition highlights how public-private partnerships can effectively address animal welfare challenges while supporting broader community safety and emergency preparedness efforts.
